Computacenter
1984-1989

The short story is they gave me my break, and if the then silent co-founder (Peter Ogden) hadn’t started interfering then I think I would still have been here. Certainly a couple of my colleagues from those days still are.
MBSE / Firstpoint Limited
1989-1996

Early in my tenure MBSE (aka the engineering arm of Micro Business Solutions) rebranded to become Firstpoint Limited.
Allied Nationwide Computer Services (ANCS)
1996-1998

Probably the worst career move I ever made. The logo is not the original ANCS one as I can’t find that, but shortly prior to leaving, the company announced their intention to rebrand from Nationwide to Worldwide.
And no, the Sony brand logo is not a mistake. I spent most of my almost 2yrs at ANCS onsite at Sony, Pencoed, and it is here I met some folks who have remained friends to this day. Looking at you Neil, Lorna, etc…
Bridgend County Borough Council
1998-2005

My time at the local authority was a fun one, but ultimately I was never destined to be a “council employee” for too long. It was utterly soul destroying to see some of the lifers literally getting away with doing nothing and being paid way more than I ever would. For my sanity, I needed to leave.

And that’s the story of my IT life via the logo’s of the companies I worked at for 42½yrs of my life.
And, as my post last week asks in it’s title, is this the end of my work life?
And the answer is that I suspect not.
What it is though, is the end of my IT life.
I honestly never expected from when I started in 1984, that 42yrs later I would be saying that.
I’ve met some fantastic people along the way. Some have become life long friends, whilst others we lost too soon. And this, I’m thinking, is the start of series of posts detailing some of my memories.
Read them if you have a spare moment.
They’ll be an insight into how ‘grunt’ work happened pre-internet.
